It is important to think carefully about these points before setting up a Data@UNIMI account and uploading your research data.
- Firstly, you should consider whether this is the right platform for uploading your research data. Data@UNIMI can host all research data that are at the basis of publications (or PhDs theses), or research projects: make sure that you select relevant data and keep uncomplete data elsewhere. As such, we strongly recommend that you check these guidelines: Data@UNIMI or Drive?, they explain when it is best to use Dataverse and when it is best to use other platforms (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive).
- Secondly, you should be clear about relevant data use agreements and the authorizations and procedures that are necessary for publishing research data in a legal and ethical way. Procedures often involve checking data use policies provided by research funders, adhering to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), any applicable copyright laws, and anonymizing data when necessary, amongst others. To know more, please make sure to consult the following links: make a legal and ethical use of your research data, and Data@UNIMI terms of use.
- Finally, remember that uploaded data should be accompanied by all the necessary documentation that will help others understand your data and make it fully reusable.
